RFID Based RTLS Systems

In manufacturing units, warehouses, logistic centers , hospitals , hospitality , education centers and other areas with a wide variety of products and information constantly moving in, out and around a large area, knowing the equipment's and personnel's location can be a competitive advantage. Intercode Solutions' RTLS solutions provide a vastly superior mechanism to efficiently take care of this business, thus creating new opportunities for success. The RTLS Systems have the following components:

Wi-Fi enabled Location Receivers - These are standard Wi-fi Access Points, which are connected to the wired back-bone of the company, thus providing a wireless coverage of the entire vicinity.

Exciters / Readers - These are Chokepoints, which are created within the vicinity to identify when the asset passed a particular location.

Positioning Engine - This piece of software related to the tag via the Wi-Fi receivers would identify and and give the position of the Tag within the Wi-Fi Confinement.

Application Software - This software would use the positioning data given by the Positioning Engine with a Site map to relate to the exact locations that the RFID Tag is present. This piece of software in real terms would relate to the requirement for tracking and tracing.

Ekahau

The number of WLAN installations is growing at a fast pace and networks today need to be designed and deployed quickly. Today’s networks must support data, voice, video, and location and need to meet various requirements. Access points have become less expensive, but they still cost money, and so do labor. 'Flooding' the area with APs (without planning or a site survey) is costly and may lead to bad performance.

Network implementation involves several steps: planning, surveying, analysis, optimization, documentation, on-going maintenance and improvements. “Auto-RF” is only part of the solution and a Client-side site survey is always necessary for true coverage, performance and security verification.

Ekahau's ESS tool provides an easy-to-use, visual approach to 802.11 design and verification. It covers the whole design & deployment of a WLAN network. This includes planning, verification, documentation, and periodic monitoring. What's more, the tool is vendor neutral and in most cases, cuts network deployment time in (less than) half.

Ekahau T301-A

Ekahau T301-A is a small battery powered active Wi-Fi tag for asset and people tracking. In conjunction with the Ekahau Real-Time Location System (RTLS), the tag provides accurate location using standard 802.11b/g infrastructure. It attaches to equipment or it can be carried in a pocket or worn as a wristband. Its small form factor and weight allows mounting onto even small or unusually shaped objects. The dust and waterproof enclosure with rubber sealing allows the tag to be used outdoors or under dusty or humid conditions.

The T301-A Wi-Fi tag contains a system on chip (SoC) with an intelligent low power radio transceiver, ultra low standby current, and automatic motion detection. As a result, the tag lasts many years on two small batteries. Battery status is continuously monitored and the tag reports itself when the battery condition reaches a pre-determined level.

The tag contains two configurable buttons for sending alarms or other messages from the tag to integrated applications. The tag's LEDs and buzzer can be remotely triggered for visually and audibly identifying the correct tag or for alerting personnel. The tag configuration and software can be managed remotely anywhere within the wireless network coverage area.

For more information on the T301-A, please refer to the attached document.

Asset and Personnel Tracking

Today's mobile workforce demands that both assets and people move freely within and outside the workplace. As a result, losses due to missing assets and shrinking inventories have skyrocketed. According to industry sources, employee theft costs U.S. businesses an average of $30 billion annually and is the primary cause for over 20% of all business failures.

To combat this growing threat, security managers have resorted to subjecting employees to invasive searches, long
delays and demoralizing suspicion. However, new technology available from AXCESS“ Inc. provides security managers
and employees a convenient, non-invasive alternative.

The AXCESS ActiveTag™ RFID (radio frequency ID) system combines asset and people identification with the ability to functionally link an asset to a person. AXCESS RFID Tags placed on assets and people allow strategically positioned readers to automatically track and monitor movement throughout a facility without human interaction. By linking an asset ID to an employee ID, people can carry their laptop PCs or tools with them, allowing employees to forego physical searches.

Personnel Access Control

Securing your facility means more than just controlling access. It's knowing where people are and when they come and go. The AXCESS ActiveTag™ System combines access control with the ability to automatically monitor the movements of people throughout your facility.

Asset Tags

The Asset Tag from AXCESS Inc. is a high performance active RFID tag based on the company’s patented automatic identification technology. The tag can be affixed to virtually any asset (laptops, computers, peripherals, electronic equipment, pallets, inventory items, etc.) for effective, long-range asset protection and monitoring throughout the enterprise or supply chain.

The Activator

The Activator is the cornerstone of the ActiveTag control point architecture. The Activator is a stand-alone transmitter that connects directly to an application-specific antenna to provide a low frequency activation signal that awakens tags as they pass through the antenna’s field. The Activator writes its location ID to the tag, which is then re-transmitted, along with the tag’s unique ID, to provide the tag’s precise location at the time of activation. By adjusting the power output on the Activator, the activation area can be expanded or reduced, thus creating control points from a few feet in diameter to tens of feet across. The Activator can be configured with its own user-defined location ID via serial port (using a PC or terminal communications device) or manually via jumpers. The unit installs easily and offers flexible coverage for perimeter doors, interior zones, vehicle lanes and other control points throughout the facility.

ActiveTrac™ Software

The ActiveTrac™ Software provides an enterprise-wide personnel, asset and equipment monitoring solution with integrated logging, tracking, alert notification, status monitoring, and reporting functions. The software combines operator-friendly displays, flexible configuration and instantaneous query functions to offer a powerful tool for tracking movements and automatically controlling remote devices. ActiveTrac™ has a range of applications, including resource management, asset protection, status monitoring, and inventory logistics.

ActiveTag™ Serial Receiver

The ActiveTag™ Serial Receiver is a network-capable general-purpose receiver that detects tag signals, converts them into data, and forwards the information to a controller or host application. The IP Network Receiver adds a LAN interface to the basic serial receiver to provide Ethernet connectivity across the enterprise LAN/WAN. Any number of receivers can be networked throughout multiple facilities to enable enterprise-wide monitoring and tracking of assets, personnel and other mission-critical resources.
