Fixed Asset Tracking |
| |
| What is Fixed Asset Tracking? |
| |
Fixed assets play a very important role in determining the financial strength of a company, however big or small. Therefore, it is imperative that corporates ensure that they have a clear track of all the fixed assets that they own. Fixed assets include computers, laptops, machinery, equipment, furniture, safes, cars, trucks and other vehicles, important documents, etc. Most companies today manage their fixed assets using spreadsheets and databases but these methods have many shortcomings and are not effective in ensuring that the assets are safe and at their respective locations.
Fixed Asset Tracking means finding out quickly which fixed assets you own, their location and where an asset was located in the past. An effective fixed asset tracking system allows you to identify and track surplus assets, unused assets; create departmental standards and provide information for better decisions on purchasing fixed assets. In addition, the system allows you to secure your assets from theft and ensures that the investments that you put into creating these assets is not wasted in any way. |

| Bar Code Tracking Systems |
| |
The bar code tracking system involves the use of bar coding to code each and every fixed asset that an organization wants to manage and track. The codes are entered into a PC module which can then be used to record an asset's movement and performance, from purchase to disposal, and to generate reports on the same. On a change of location and during relocation, the bar-coded asset is tracked using a Hand Held Terminal. This data is then updated in the PC Module. The technology used is simple yet powerful and allows the organization to have complete control over various types of assets, big or small. The system has various components: |
| |
| 1. |
The PC Module allows you to create assets, print labels and in the overall |
|
| |
operations of the tracking process. |
| 2. |
The Hand Held Terminal allows you to find assets, inventory them and find |
| |
assets that are not in the location they're expected to be in. |
| 3. |
Reports such as Asset Master List, Scanned Assets List, Missing or Misplaced |
| |
Assets, UnScanned Assets, etc. can be generated to give you complete up to-date information. |

| RFID Based Tracking Systems |
| |
RFID Based Tracking Systems use Radio Frequency Identification technology to keep track of fixed assets such as laptops, computers, inventory and vehicles within the company premises. Intercode provides two types of RFID Systems:
1. Active Tag Tracking Systems
2. RFID Based RTLS Systems |
| |
| Active Tag Tracking Systems |
| |
| In active tag tracking systems, every fixed asset has a RFID Tag attached to it. An Exciter or a Reader is attached at various key points to enable tracking of the assets. These tags interface with a software application that will allow you to track presence of the various asset inside the premises. |
| |
| RFID Based RTLS Systems |
| |
In manufacturing units, warehouses, logistic centers and other areas with a wide variety of products and information constantly moving in, out and around a large area, knowing the equipment's and personnel's location can be a competitive advantage. Intercode Solutions' RTLS solutions provide a vastly superior mechanism to efficiently take care of this business, thus creating new opportunities for success. The RTLS Systems have the following components:
- Wi-Fi enabled Location Receivers - These are standard Wi-Fi Access Points which are connected to the wired back-bone of the company, thus providing a wireless coverage of the entire vicinity.
- Exciters / Readers - These are Choke-Points which are created within the vicinity to identify when the asset passed a particular location.
- Positioning Engine - This piece of software related to the tag via the Wifi receivers would identify and give the position of the Tag within the Wi-Fi Confinement.
- Application Software - This software would use the positioning data given by the Positioning Engine with a Site map to relate to the exact locations that the RFID Tag is present. This piece of software would in real terms relate to the requirement for tracking and tracing.
